Nissan's quarterly profit rose 3.2% on healthier sales that offset production damage from flooding in Thailand and a battering from the strong yen. Yokohama-based Nissan on Wednesday reported October-December third-quarter profit of 82.7 billion yen ($1.07 billion), up from 80.1 billion yen a year earlier.

Toyota said Wednesday it plans to invest $400 million and create 400 jobs at its assembly plant in Princeton, Ind., to build a Highlander SUV hybrid, ending all production of that model in Japan. The decision allows Toyota to produce an additional 50,000 Highlanders annually in Indiana, many of which it will export to markets including Russia and Australia.
